The Teaching Goals:Prepare general and specialized dentists to offer dental services to the public.
1. Prepare distinguished teaching staffs and research workers in basic science and clinical dentistry to advance both the art and science of dentistry in Taiwan.
2. Offer advanced education for dentists and dental assistants to improve the current situation of dental practice in Taiwan.
3. Provide advice and consultancy to government authorities on oral hygiene, preventive dentistry, and policies for dental service.
The predecessor of the dental school was the dental unit of the Taipei Imperial University affiliated hospital. After Taiwan’s retrocession to the Chinese government, the first chairman of the dental school, Dr. Kuo Shui initially served as the professor of the Medical College in dental science. In 1953, the National Taiwan University School of Dentistry was founded as university-based dental school in Taiwan and it has been admitting students since 1955. The Graduate Institute of Clinical Dentistry was established in 1988. Started in 1991, PhD degree was also provided for more advanced research in clinical dentistry. In 1996, the dental school was authorized to establish graduate courses in oral biology. . A new master’s course in dental science for part-time students of dentists with jobs was established in 2001. During the past half century, the National Taiwan University School of Dentistry has been committed to excellence in education, research, patient care, and community service.
